The English Cutler - General Miscellany - Sharpening Kits
Sharpening Kits
Small and large sharpening kits consisting of a wooden ‘strickle’ a grooved board onto which you place sand or grit for coarse sharpening, a water stone that will give a razor edge and a strop to make it even sharper, all in a leather roll.
The small is suitable for eating knives, larger knives and daggers would require the large set.

Sharpening Strickle
A wooden board with cut grooves and a hand sewn linen bag for sand.
The strickle is placed on a table or the ground and the user kneels or holds the strap to secure it.
Sand is placed on the board and when a tool is drawn across the surface it acts like a coarse stone. Agricultural tools only. My interpretation of a 17thC. description but when it started – who knows?
£30.00
Honing Stone
Lozenge shaped water stone on a thong – gives a razor sharp edge.
£15.00
