Crossbows - Decorative Elements

Bows of status were usually hunting bows and so were made to be beautiful and to display the wealth of the owner. War bows occasionally had decoration as well, but tended to be plainer.

Aspects that needed to be there for functionality were often decorated, so that ironwork for example was rarely plain, but hunting crossbows were the ones that showed all the unnecessary elements such as inlay, differing materials, pom poms, braiding and so forth.
